Children’s Health Fund (CHF) is a rich source of information on a wide array of topics related to the health care needs of medically underserved children and their families. The Fund has available articles published in peer-reviewed journals, conference presentations, and white paper-advocacy briefs on topics that include asthma, early childhood development, health information technology, homeless children, the medical home model, childhood obesity, specialty referral management, transportation, and the medical and mental health needs of children following a disaster. These publications describe the need of medically underserved children and families, discuss program development and models to meet these needs, and include data that can be used to support advocacy for informed local and national health policy.

Areas of Research

Specific areas of research and advocacy at the Fund include:

  • Improving health outcomes and reducing disparities by integrating evidence-based models in primary care for conditions such as pediatric asthma
  • The enhanced medical home model as the gold standard of care for medically underserved children
  • Innovative strategies to manage childhood obesity
  • The health and development of homeless children
  • Medical and mental health needs of children on the Gulf Coast following Hurricane Katrina
  • Use of health information technology to reduce health disparities and improve outcomes
  • Transportation as a hidden barrier to health care access
