The Children's Health Fund believes every child should receive health care in a “medical home” setting. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, a “medical home” provides health care that is accessible, continuous, comprehensive, family-centered, coordinated, compassionate and culturally effective. Having a medical home ensures access to necessary health care services, including primary care, medical specialists, mental health care, and dental services on a timely basis. Following this model, CHF supports and develops programs that provide health care to poor and vulnerable populations that do not traditionally have access to quality health care in a medical home setting.
After establishing and testing innovative models of care at CHF’s Flagship Program in New York City, The Children’s Health Agenda helps support program replication in CHF’s National Network of 21 sites. In addition, to address the national perception of what constitutes quality health care, CHF advocates for recognition of the medical home model of health care.
The Children’s Health Agenda also seeks to ensure that all children will have access to health care by engaging the corporate community through the Corporate Council for America’s Children, and informing the public and educating government leaders. CHF encourages the introduction, passage, and funding of laws and programs on Federal, State, and Local levels, ensuring that the health needs of all children are met.
