The Baton Rouge Children’s Health Project (BRCHP) was formed in response to the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and today continues to deliver compassionate, quality care to where children live, play, and learn in East Baton Rouge Parish.

The BRCHP’s services include critically needed medical and mental healthcare, and health education support. The program serves some 41,000 local public school students, of whom 80% live below the federal poverty line. The BRCHP team–staffed with a pediatrician, registered nurse, clinical psychologists, licensed clinical social worker, and a health educator–helps families overcome barriers related to transportation and insurance.

BRCHP brings services directly to schools and community events. The services that the school-based medical team provides include ongoing care for students with chronic conditions, vision, and hearing care. Over the years, BRCHP’s mobile clinics have provided disaster recovery assistance following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, as well as the 2016 flood and COVID-19 pandemic.
